I think it’s super important for folks searching for a photographer to feel a connection with the person who is documenting the moments and emotions that matter most. Photos help tell the story of your life - and I’ve dedicated my entire career to the mastery of this art form, and the experience that comes with it.

I’m excited to invite you into my world, so
I can best capture yours.

GET TO KNOW THE WOMAN
BEHIND THE CAMERA (me).

Let me give you the low down: I’m an eternal extrovert, a lover of stories, and always on the lookout for my next big adventure. Choosing to build a career in photography was the best decision I ever made: I can honestly say that I love my job and the incredible people it brings into my life.

Working with me means we’re officially tossing that “say cheese” vibe out the window. Instead, we’ll hang out, swap embarrassing stories (I’ve got enough for both of us), capture real smiles, and re-frame how you feel about getting professional photos done forever. Together, we’ll make memories that look as good as they feel.

It’s really as simple (and beautiful) as that. I care deeply about ensuring that anyone in front of my camera feels comfortable, safe, and appreciated regardless of gender, sexuality, race, or body size.

The love between two people and the love someone holds for themselves deserves to be celebrated and documented in a way that empowers them. This belief motivates me every time I take my camera out. I proudly work with LGBTQIA+ couples and individuals - and will happily modify our sessions to accommodate accessibility needs.

Love is love, and all people deserve to feel it.

Adventure, love, and travel are big themes in my life: I met my husband at a wedding I was shooting. He was the dashing best man, and my clients thought we’d hit it off: our first date was a trip to Thailand, and six years later we eloped in Switzerland! I aim to visit 30 countries before my 30th birthday and with 25 countries stamped in my passport - international travel is a huge part of my business and how I spend my time off.

My dad used to host a dating radio show, and my name is a creative twist (thanks mom!) on my dad's radio name 'Charlie'. My youthful rebellion was a secret tattoo I got at 17, done stealthily on someone’s kitchen table, and poorly healed: discovered by my parents when I needed emergency surgery. I’ve always had a knack for business - and auditioned for Canada’s Got Talent at 13 because my dad’s friend promised me $100 for having the guts to sing for a panel of judges.

The daughter of a dating radio show host, a love story that starts (?!) at a wedding, and other details about me.

COMMUNITY OVER COMPETITION

I’ve been working as a professional photographer for over ten years, but I remember how challenging it was when I first started out. I moved to a new city with big dreams, hoping to find industry friends, a mentor, or someone who could help show me the ropes. I reached out to dozens of photographers, and only one person was open to helping a newbie. I promised myself then to always be “that person”: I love helping other creatives find their footing in the industry, and often host workshops and retreats to help junior photographers build their skill set and portfolio.

Everyone gets their start somewhere, and I’m happy to give you a seat at my table.

My work is inspired and influenced by love. I want to get to know my clients (and the people that matter to them) on a personal level so I can witness and *feel* the love that swirls around them. I intentionally craft an experience where we have space to develop a relationship - we’ll take breaks, prioritize locations or activities that feel comfortable to you, and use reassuring language that helps give direction and confidence when needed. I’m not a “fly on the wall” photographer - I’ll drink mimosas with the girls, sit with you through a vulnerable moment, and get your grandma out on the dance floor. My camera is always present, but so am I: appreciating every part of you, all in the name of love.

My approach to photography and life is “all in the name of love”.

I frequently collaborate with experienced colleagues to host workshops and retreats for up-and-coming creatives who are eager to improve their skills, work on their portfolio, and build connections with other artists.

With ten years of camera-toting, magic-making under my belt, I love helping others get their start in the industry.

“There are not enough words to describe Sharlie as a photographer. Saying that she is absolutely incredible is not enough: someone needs to invent a word that can accurately describe the experience she offers. My fiancé and I had the pleasure to work with her for our engagement session and our wedding. She goes above and beyond, and on our wedding day she felt like part of our family and friends. My personal opinion: it’s a mistake NOT to hire her as your photographer! I am personally someone that struggles with my personal body image and knowing that she is a HUGE advocate for all body types and body acceptance made my choice even easier when looking around for photographers. Just do it - book her, you won’t regret it!”

Here’s what B + L have to say about working with me:

“Sharlie is a truly exceptional photographer. She has photographed my husband and I on numerous occasions (engagement, wedding, honeymoon, maternity, first baby, and several other sessions) and every time we are impressed with her work. She knows how to capture special moments like no other. If you are looking for a photographer who poses you looking at the camera, Sharlie is not the one for you. She loves capturing real moments, real smiles, and laughter, and she does it so well - without the awkwardness of being told to “smile”. It’s impossible to be uncomfortable when Sharlie is behind the camera. She’s our forever photographer.”

Here’s what M + P have to say about working with me:

“I had a boudoir session with Sharlie Faye, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I was very shy and hesitant to step out of my comfort zone, but she made me feel at ease instantly. She takes the time to get to know you, which is certainly not something I have experienced with other professional photographers. It was a wonderful experience and the pictures were absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend her! Hire her...you won't regret it!”

Here’s what F has to say about working with me:

Our vibe might be off if:

WE’LL BE A GOOD FIT IF:

You are excited to create some art together that is inspired by your life and the love that surrounds you. You are open to getting silly, being vulnerable, and co-creating with your photographer. You are searching for someone who helps you feel at ease and confident.

You are searching for someone who can give you photos for the cheapest price out there. You aren’t interested in developing a relationship with your photographer - or need to rush through your session(s). You care more about a “shot list” than enjoying (and capturing) moments as they happen.

You’re familiar with my work - or have found yourself getting giddy at the thought of working together while doing an Instagram creep or website read-through. (We listen to our gut feelings around here!!)

You want photos with rich, creamy colour - and love seeing galleries that are as playful as they are timeless. You’re dreaming of motion blur, artsy direct flash (hello paparazzi vibes), and believe that sometimes there is nothing better than a black and white photograph.
